InSpirational Column: A New Beginning

By Joyce Balentine

With the beginning of the new year, we have the opportunity to make changes in our lives. It is an excellent time to stop and think about the amount of time and the quality of time we give to God.

I Thessalonians 5:17, Pray without ceasing.God doesn't expect us to be on our knees every hour of the day, but we can learn to keep our hearts turned toward Him. To praywithout ceasing is difficult in this day and age. We are extremely busy, but we can be aware of God, even when we aren't praying.

As we go through each day, God is all around us. He's in the faces of the people we pass on the street and in the seasons as they change. Learning to recognize the glory ofGod and His creations, allows us to grow closer to Him. We can see the splendor of God in the beauty of the sunset, or in the majesty of the mountains. If we learn to look at the beauty around us, we will see the power of God.

Psalm 19:1, The heavens declare the glory of God: the firmament sheweth His handywork. God loves this world and gave the very best He had to offer. He took His time creating this wonderful world and saw that it was good. While we don't worship the earth, we can learn to see the wonder of God all around us. The beauty of an ebony sky, filled with millions of stars twinkling in the darkness, is His handiwork. He gave us many wonderful things to enjoy during our stay on this earth. By seeing God in these wonders, we will draw closer to Him.

Our daily lives are filled with gentle reminders of God, if we will only take a few moments to stop and think about them. God is all around us. Sometimes, when I watch a bird in flight, or the rising of the sun in the east, I feel the closeness of God. Learning to keep Him in our thoughts, will keep Him in our hearts. Whatever we keep foremost in  our thoughts, will be foremost in our hearts.

This new year, instead of the usual NewYears's resolutions, make a commitment to God to keep your thoughts turned toward Him. What better way to start the year, than to promise to spend more time with God. To promise to be more aware of Him as we go through our busy days. My promise to God, is to see Him in the world around me: to see His wonderful creations and remember that He is never far away.

God's love never wavers. Sometimes we tend to forget that God is still as loving and caring as He's always been. God never changes. Instead of pulling farther away from God, each day will be better if we draw closer to Him. God is all around us, if we will  just take the time to see Him.

Father, let me keep my eyes on You, as I walk through each day.

Let me spread the wonder of Your love, with every world I say.

Father, when I see Your creations, I will know that I am loved.

Let me feel Your love and power, sent from Heaven above.
